Çeşme
For a straightforward swim, the southern coves are the answer: sand underfoot, calm shallow water, and simple kitchens at the back of the beach. Ilıca is the widest and easiest with children; Altınkum is the prettiest colour. Arrive before eleven in August, or after four when the crowd thins and the light improves.
