Alaçatı

Stone houses, narrow streets, restaurants, boutique hotels and a windsurfing coast make Alaçatı one of Çeşme’s busiest and most distinctive areas.

The area

Alaçatı’s centre is built around narrow streets lined with stone houses, small squares, restaurants, cafés, bars and boutique hotels. Kemalpaşa Street and the surrounding lanes stay busy throughout the day, while the Hacı Memiş area becomes especially lively around dinner and into the evening.

The centre itself is not on the coast. For the beach or windsurfing, you need to head south towards Çark Beach, Port Alaçatı and the surrounding shoreline. It helps to think of central Alaçatı and the coast as two separate parts of the area when planning your day.

Alaçatı is particularly well known for windsurfing, thanks to the consistent winds and shallow water along the southern coast. The surf schools and water-sports centres are concentrated away from the old town, so reaching them usually requires a short drive or taxi ride.

The centre is easiest to explore in the morning, before the streets become crowded. During summer, foot traffic increases considerably later in the day, and the restaurant and bar areas become much busier in the evening. Once you are in the centre, walking is usually the simplest way to get around.

Alaçatı works best when you allow time for more than a quick stop. You can explore the streets in the morning, stay for lunch or dinner, and visit the coast separately if swimming or windsurfing is part of your plans. If you are spending several days in Çeşme, it is easy to dedicate half a day or an evening to the area without trying to fit everything into one visit.
