Ildır

Ildır sits on the quieter northern side of the Çeşme peninsula, away from the restaurants, shops and nightlife that define Alaçatı and central Çeşme. The village is small, the waterfront is lined with fishing boats, and life here still revolves more around the sea than tourism.

Its most important landmark is Erythrai, the ancient city that once occupied the hills above the present-day village. Erythrai was one of the twelve cities of the Ionian League, and archaeological evidence shows settlement in the area reaching back to the Early Bronze Age. Today, the remains provide a direct connection between the modern village and one of the peninsula’s oldest settlements.

A visit works well as a combination of the archaeological site and the village itself. After exploring Erythrai, you can walk down towards the waterfront, spend some time around the harbour and stop for seafood or other local dishes. Ildır is also known for its sunset views across the Aegean.

There is little reason to rush here. Ildır suits travellers who want to spend a few quieter hours away from Çeşme’s busiest areas, particularly those interested in archaeology, coastal scenery and smaller settlements that still feel separate from the main resort centres.

It is also worth treating Ildır as its own excursion rather than adding it to an already crowded day. The journey takes you towards a less developed part of the peninsula, and having time for both Erythrai and the waterfront makes the trip more worthwhile.
