Altınkum

Altınkum lies on the south-western side of the Çeşme peninsula, around 10 kilometres from central Çeşme. Its name means “golden sand”, a reference to the fine, pale-gold sand that gives the beach its distinctive appearance.

The sea is one of the main reasons Altınkum feels different from many other beaches around Çeşme. Even in the hottest part of summer, the water is noticeably cool. The beach faces the open Aegean, although parts of the bay have some natural shelter.

Altınkum is better thought of as a beach area than a neighbourhood with a traditional centre. Most people come specifically for the sea and spend several hours along this part of the coast. There are beach businesses and other facilities in the area, while the wider coastline also includes stretches where the focus is simply on swimming and spending time by the water.

Having a car is convenient, particularly if you plan to combine Altınkum with Pırlanta, Çiftlikköy or other beaches on the western side of the peninsula. Public transport from central Çeşme is also available, according to the municipality.

Altınkum suits travellers who prioritise clear, refreshing water and a sandy beach over restaurants, shopping or nightlife within walking distance. If you want to stay somewhere with more evening activity, central Çeşme or Alaçatı is usually a better base, with Altınkum visited as a dedicated beach trip.
